HAMPTONS - PART ONE

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Hamptons once again. This time I was the guest of Frank Randolph who is one of Washington DC's most talented interior designers.
He welcomed me into his beautiful summer rental house in Southampton right on South Main Street. We spent days at the ocean and antiquing in  charming villages. Nights were spent having delicious and beautiful dinners shared by Franks many friends outside on the deck.
Sometimes I think the natural beauty of the Hamptons is underappreciated. It is so easy to get caught up in all the glamour and fabulous restaurants that you forget there you are in the middle of one of the most beautiful places on the east coast. The trees, flowers, ocean and unique quality of the light take your breath away.
The following photos are a visual diary of my brief and wonder filled visit starting with still lifes of Franks house and finishing with the outdoor beauty of the Hamptons.

HAMPTONS - PART TWO

I also managed to attend the East Hampton Antiques Show at historic Mulford Farm which is as interesting and beautiful as the antiques on display. Among the best dealers are David Bell and Tom Preston of David Bell Antiques(located in the Georgetown area of Washington DC) who deal in mid century modern. David who has been in the antiques business for quite some time always manages to find some of the most unique pieces on the market. In my excitement taking photos I forgot to keep notes of the other antiques dealers who objects I have included in the following photos. Many apologies to those who are not mentioned by name.

SPRING ARRIVALS (More on the way)

DUMBARTON OAKS

Washington DC's Secret Garden

Dumbarton Oaks is located in the Georgetown section of Washington DC. It is only a few blocks from our shop and I have the pleasure of walking by it everyday. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. It's not only the plantings that captivate but also the garden ornament and architectural embellishments. Every area rewards you with something beautiful and unexpected. It is difficult to express the uniqueness of Dumbarton through photographs though I have been trying for years. Following are a few photos just to try to give you an idea of how special this garden is. If you are planning to visit Washington DC you must see it. I will follow with posts in the future that elaborate on its history and more interesting details. It is located at 703 32nd Street and you can access more information at www.doaks.org.

NEW ARRIVALS - GREY RULES

It's that time of year when the orders we placed at the summer shows start arriving at the shop. It's also the time of great antique sales and our new found treasures.
Best of all it's the time of unbelievably beautiful grey skies.
The following photos reflect my grey obsession. You will find lots of this sublime color among our shop offerings. A real standout is the giant French zinc  capital that has been artfully turned into a console  table. Also available is my current favorite design book The Natural Home by Hans Blomquist who as a stylist and art director gravitates toward a grey palette.
If you happen to be in Georgetown this fall please stop by and visit us at 1657 Wisconsin Avenue or you can call us at 202 337 0540.

GEORGETOWN FRENCH MARKET

We are currently getting ready for the annual Book Hill French Market in Georgetown. It will be the best and largest yet. Although it includes just two blocks of Upper Wisconsin Avenue (from P Street to Reservoir Road) they are the best in Georgetown.
Along with us (Moss & Co.  Oliver Dunn and Catharine Roberts) everyone's favorite French Cafe Patisserie Poupon will be participating in a big way.
You may  want to check out  our new neighbor Comer & Co. who also sells antiques. Another new neighbor is Neptune Fine  Art  whose beautifully curated current exhibition  is  Works on Paper by Picasso and  Matisse. If you are an art lover this show is as good as it gets.
Stop by from 10 to 5 this Friday and Saturday. You don't want to miss this. We'll have more sale merchandise than ever with some items selling below cost.
We are located at 1657 WISCONSIN AVENUE. If you have any questions feel free to call at 202 337 0540
